The Phobos Monolith as taken by the Mars Global Surveyor (MOC Image 55103) in 1998.
It is located near 15°N, 14°W, a few km east of Stickney crater. It is likely just a boulder.

The original NASA MOC image was distorted slightly due to how the camera operates, so the craters appeared 'oval'
The above image shows the image 'corrected' using the upper right crater as a benchmark, making it round which adjusted the entire image at the same time.

The bright rock in this picture is not the "Palermo" monolith, which is closer to Stickney crater

Phobos - Monolith

Post  Max Peck on Fri Jun 27, 2014 7:03 pm

There is an article about Phobos and the "monolith" posted on Mr. Skipper's site:

Report 223 - Mars Moons & Monolith - (published February 24, 2014)

Here's a quote from the article, about the monolith:

However, I'm reminded that its presence was promoted by astronaut Buzz Aldrin on talk shows. In my opinion, that's nearly the same as if it is official material coming directly from and approved by NASA and JPL. In that scenario it is likely they know a lot more about the monolith than they've released and than we do and, even though food for endless speculation, it's not likely to represent much in the way of real truth.
