Just an interesting rock ? or something else ?
Can anyone do a better enhancement ?

Re: Necho Crater Object
Thanks for this post easynow, it's great!
One thing is for sure though: Necho crater is a very "interesting" area on the Moon. For readers who want to investigate further, here are some links and background information on Necho, from The Moon Wiki:

I suspect it's not all rocks down there but these images are difficult to enhance... And how come it's all gray ?Just an interesting rock ? or something else ?

.... The Bright One?
Nomenclature
Named for Necho II, a king of the Twenty-sixth dynasty of Egypt (610 - 595 BC), and the son of Psammetichus I. Necho played a significant role in the histories of the Assyrian Empire, Babylonia and the Kingdom of Judah. According to Farouk El-Baz, Necho was also a pioneer geographer who commissioned a successful three-year naval expedition to show that Africa was surrounded by water on all sides.
This name was officially proposed (and claimed to be accepted) by El-Baz in an article appearing in the journal Science in 1973. The feature to which he attached this name was a purported 200-km diameter crater centered at 3°S/125°E and including the present Becvár, among others.

In Chapter 5 (Craters, part 4 of 6) of NASA SP-362 APOLLO OVER THE MOON; A VIEW FROM ORBIT, it is noted that Necho was nicknamed "The Bright One" by the astronauts of Apollo 14. Research: Danny Caes.

Now that is interesting!
Images
Although there seems to be nothing in the LPI's list of orbital Apollo photographs of the crater called Necho, it WAS frequently photographed during several of the Apollo project's missions! The list of orbital Apollo photographs of Necho would be much too long to add it into this page!

Thumbs up to Danny Caes for his excellent research! The LPI images are not great but I'm posting this as a reference to the NASA frame numbers. Has anyone else looked at this object in Necho crater?
Several orbital Apollo photographs of Necho
Three oblique south looking photographs of Necho, made during the mission of Apollo 10: AS10-28-4012, AS10-28-4015 and 4016.
Another trio of oblique south looking photographs of Necho: AS10-33-4873, 4874, and 4875.
See also AS10-33-4879.
Most orbital photographs of Necho seem to have been made as sequences of triplets: AS10-33-4988, 4989, and 4990.
AS10-27-3909 doesn't show Tycho (as mentioned in the caption), it's Necho!

Re: Necho crater Object
Hey Max glad you like it and thanks for adding all the extra info
And yeah that object is sorta interesting isn't it ?
I think there's a few different reasons why the images are difficult to enhance and why they're gray colored but not sure if I want to open that can of worms yet
Why do you think it's all gray ?
Here's another cropped image taken from a base map ...

So far, this is the best Apollo image I've seen
Link - http://wms.lroc.asu.edu/apollo/view?image_id=AS17-M-1142
But it doesn't appear to have enough resolution to see the object ?
Also, not sure if anyone else noticed, on the other side of the crater rim there's another bizzarre object ...

What is that ? Another interesting rock or something else ?

Well if I were looking on the Moon for partially buried structure, it looks like something I would expect to find so that's why it caught my attention. I'm not saying that's what it defintely is but I will say it's certainly one of the more interesting anomalies found in the LRO imagery that survived the censoring process.I suspect it's not all rocks down there but these images are difficult to enhance... You're welcome.easynow wrote:Hey Max glad you like it and thanks for adding all the extra info
You were saying something about a can of worms? The reason I wanted to add this information is because there seems to be a connection between the Moon and ancient Egypt. Maybe these objects you highlighted have something to do with the reason why they picked the name "Necho" for this crater?
Actually, I don't believe it's all gray. I was being sarcastic - but yes I should have been more specific there so sorry about that. I was working on that last post and looking at the Necho page on the Moon Wiki; perhaps you noticed that the Clementine image they show there on the right, is gray. We all know there are color pictures from Clementine (don't we?) so that's why I was thinking why don't they show us a color picture there, you know. It's typical. I mean, we've been talking about this on the Color Moon Image thread: those color pictures are an exception to the rule and still not very common when you look around on the internet. Why is that? I don't want to move this thread off-topic so there is no need to go into it further here, I'm just saying that it's an honest and genuine question. How come it's all gray? Why do you think it's all gray ?
Exactly.I think there's a few different reasons why the images are difficult to enhance and why they're gray colored but not sure if I want to open that can of worms yet
Okay, so that's why... Thanks for the information. Let me rephrase the question: how come the LRO doesn't have a color camera?Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera

lol ... Maybe it does ? https://spacetime.forumotion.com/t1839-color-of-the-moon
Here's one of the Apollo 10 images you referenced showing Crater Necho ...

Raw or adjust the contrast, ... Lots of interesting features can be seen.
Top center of that image appears to show somekind of square shaped structure ...

Interestingly, LPI only has a low resolution image and search on The Gateway to Astronaut photography website results ... "No records were found that meet your specifications"
